SecureWave encrypts the data on authorized storage devices
The editor is now authorized to incorporate encryption functions within the Sanctuary Device Control versions marketed in mainland France
Luxembourg, Jun. 29, 2006
SecureWave announced today that it has been granted authorization from the French Central Information Systems Security Division (DCSSI) to use general cryptology features for its Sanctuary Device Control product.
Sanctuary Device Control is a software solution designed to tackle the problems inherent in protecting data stored on workstations. By default, the product denies access to any devices that have not been explicitly authorized in a "whitelist." Sanctuary Device Control therefore provides a high level of control over peripheral use (removable storage devices, such as USB flash drives, MP3 players, PDAs and digital cameras, as well as diskette drives, CD/DVD writers/recorders, external hard drives and so on). Thanks to Sanctuary Device Control, not only can you specify the authorized peripherals, but you can also define the rules governing their use (user type: users or user groups; condition: USB, Bluetooth; moment: programmed access). Consequently, you can set up a security policy that considerably lowers the risk of confidential data theft and the introduction of malicious programs, though without totally denying users the practical advantages of a PDA or USB flash drive.
By receiving authorization to use cryptology features, SecureWave can now offer a version of Sanctuary Device Control on the French market that is capable of duplicating the information copied to a storage device, thereby reinforcing the level of protection against deliberate or accidental data theft. A peripheral containing encrypted data cannot be read on a workstation without access to the encryption key, which guarantees that the stored data is unusable.
Furthermore, with a price per workstation of just a few dozen euros and attractive sliding-scale prices, Sanctuary Device Control stands as an effective alternative to using USB flash drives comprising built-in data encryption and costing three times more on average. Sanctuary Device Control is available now with encryption functions.
