SecureWave, the leader in new generation endpoint security vital to protecting desktops, laptops, servers and terminals, announced that the company's Sanctuary suite of products has been selected by Microsoft (NASDAQ: MSFT) as part of the Endpoint Policy Management & Enforcement component of Microsoft's Network Access Protection (NAP), an extensible standards-based technology that will enable users to more securely access their corporate network.
"Companies in all fields can easily administer and centrally manage their endpoint security solutions with SecureWave's Sanctuary suite," said Steve Anderson, director in the Windows Server Group at Microsoft Corp. "SecureWave and Network Access Protection will improve overall network security by decreasing the risk of virus attacks and malware introduced to an organization's network, as well as the possibility of data theft associated with mobile devices."
NAP technologies allow IT professionals to monitor and control network access based on validation of a computer's compliance to pre-established policies. Network access policies are defined and managed by network administrators and managed by a central "policy coordination server." Network restriction automatically restricts noncompliant client machines to a separate, restricted network where updates and utilities -- for example, patch updates or virus signature updates -- are available to bring the client back to the desired health state. This restricted network can also be used as a "guest access" network for users without proper network credentials where Internet access is still desirable.
SecureWave Sanctuary is joined by an impressive list of NAP partners - including McAfee, Symantec, Juniper Networks and Computer Associates, among others - who have joined with Microsoft to provide a comprehensive, secure solution to helping enterprises lower the cost of access management while simultaneously providing them with more control. Managing user access to corporate resources in a safe and secure manner has been a major concern for IT administrators across all fields. Microsoft and SecureWave will address this concern by explicitly defining what users, file types, applications and devices can be used with company desktops.
"This partnership solidifies SecureWave as a major player in the endpoint security space," said Bob Johnson, COO of SecureWave. "By initiating the NAP program, Microsoft has recognized that network security is an area that continues to gather interest from enterprises across all fields. SecureWave will be at the heart of this issue, leading the Endpoint Policy Management/Enforcement aspect of NAP and helping Microsoft customers find their security Sanctuary."
SecureWave's uses a non-traditional, "whitelist" approach to endpoint security. Instead of tracking, tracing and creating software to block known threats - which is the case when using a "blacklist" - Sanctuary focuses on what devices and applications are allowed. There is a single list of allowed devices and actions, and everything else is denied. This list can be centrally managed by a company's IT administrator, and can easily be edited using a simple "drag-and-drop" method.
